New Practice as both a physical and conceptual space functions as a platform for the initiation and operation of research projects that go beyond disciplinary and institutional boundaries. Strategically located in the main building of the Technical University Berlin and emerging from the MA Design & Computation between University of the Arts Berlin & TU Berlin, the platform was founded in 2023 with the purpose of critically identifying and shaping technological developments and their social, economic, ecological and epistemological effects at an early stage from within the university.
It functions as a site for new modes of knowledge generation coupling the iterative and adaptive approach of design, engineering and computational science with the critical, aesthetic and situated approach of the arts and humanities towards a postdisciplinary practice. This practice is not a singular, conceptually-fixed framework, but instead fosters multiplicity, non-linearity and collective processes.

The Industrial Round Table is organized by New Practice between UdK and TU Berlin in cooperation with selected industry partners, establishing a long-term cooperation between students and researchers and representatives of industry and other private and public stakeholders on topics of design, technology and society.
